Pula and Valun

We left Rovinj in our cherry-red Jeep this morning and drove down the coast to Pula to see an amazing Roman amphitheatre.

It reminded us of the Coliseum in Rome, only smaller, so I spent the whole time feeling like Leigh Ann and Steve and August were going to pop out from behind a pillar at any moment. Alas!

Incredible that this structure has been standing for 2,000 years. It is Croatia's best-preserved ancient monument and the only amphitheatre in the world with four intact side towers.

From there we caught a ferry to the island of Cres and drove about 45 minutes south down the spine of the island to the tiny village of Valun.

What a place! The sea is extremely calm and clear, and the water temperature is perfect. I think I could stay here forever, or at least an extra day or two, if we can find accommodation. Maybe as stow-aways on this sailboat...

I should mention that supper was phenomenal! It totally made up for last night, whew.

Ruby's goal for tomorrow is to rent a paddle board and go exploring. Can't wait.

  2. We are going to buy some airline tickets, rent a cherry red Jeep, and lurk around the amphitheatre until we accidentally bump into you. Incredible that it's still standing!
