Near miss

We began our day in France, under the ever watchful eye of the local castle.
Our only goal to get breakfast at the bakery that the information lady had assured us would be open on Sunday. Anyone that knows us and our travels knows that when we decide to do something patently foolish, like ride an entire day in the wrong direction just for a breakfast, something will go awry.

Yep, the only bakery in town open on Sunday is closed for vacation most of the month of July. While we all agreed that this was a fitting end and certainly well within our experiences of travel, spirits were not particularly high. Hunger was fairly high, and there was nowhere to get food. Liv broke out the bananas and peanut butter which helped a little, and I asked at the local coffee and bar and wine restaurant about breakfast. She suggested the closed bakery which we had already found on Google and knew was never opened on Sunday. Without a better plan, I decided to go and see if I could find it to verify, and lo and behold there it was.
Because tomorrow is Bastille Day and everything will be closed in France, they opted to open special on Sunday today. We were able to come up with a few things that might help.
With a full load of as much white flour and butter as a family of four can hold - and for us, that's quite a bit- we set out.

Because of the triathlon, we were on a different side of the River today which turned out to have quite a bit more shade which we didn't mind as the weather was warmer by several degrees. There was plenty of the Riverside beauty that we are becoming accustomed to and expect to spend the next week enjoying.
A brief stop for cold drinks helped everyone quite a bit because it turns out that while we are relatively strong compared to when we started our trip, we are not anywhere near as strong as when we arrived in Italy a week and a half ago. While spirits were okay, we weren't keeping up quite the pace from yesterday and were quite glad when we got back to town and found that there was a simple restaurant open not far from the museum we were trying to visit.
Suitably refortified, we had a chance to visit the state Roman museum which delved into all the history of This City and so many of its artifacts.
The number of mosaics that they have saved and remounted in the museum is quite incredible. Not easy to photograph, and much more impressive in person.  We have gone back to the same campground we left yesterday morning, are setup and enjoying some time to rest

In typical fashion for us, it is scheduled to rain off and on lightly through tomorrow, starting moments before we get our tents down and lasting through the day. Perhaps that will make things cooler, although it is not scheduled to be. There is also some uncertainty about the camping arrangements, with a community campground and boat dock being our current destination, but at least we checked ahead and found that the first choice was not a campground but a German residents camping area.
We will find ways to enjoy ourselves regardless.
